This project aims to document all Igbo names in an accessible place online. It continues in the path of YorubaName.com, which focused on Yorùbá.
This is a non-profit documentation effort to support the revitalization and development of Igbo and other African languages. It is supported by volunteer speakers of the language, linguists, and software developers. And also my many people who have supported us with donations of money, time, and attention.
Users will be able to submit new names to the database, provide help in correcting mistakes in the current record, and volunteer on any other aspects of the project as necessary.
At launch, the dictionary will have names and meanings, and their various dialectal spellings. In the future, we hope to include audio as well as a functionality that helps users write their names in the Ndebe Script (read more about this here), which we support.
